This is a very important question! The NOSTR community is responding in different ways and soon there will be many good options for people such as yourself who simply don't want to see that as part of their experience. As you say muting does not really work. NOSTR.band seems to provide a good clean feed for the most part. If you happen to be an Android user Amethyst is by far the leader in the idea of allowing you to block what you don't want and customize your feed so it works for you. If you download Amethyst from Google Play there are extra protections because Google Play explicitly prohibits certain content. vitorpamplona (npub18nw…xtdv) is really leading the way in "amazing user experience" . Every NOSTR dev can learn much just by observing each new amazing development on Amethyst. Relays filter out tons of spam and smut, if they did not, your feed would be a mess! They will get better at this and some will specialize in a suitable for work experience. Providing a "plug and play" easy suitable experience for people like you will be paramount for the success of NOSTR.
