Not being a gun enthusiast means you are not practicing at the range. Moreover, in home defence scenario, you’re hardly going to engage in a full-on gun fight in your living room. Realistically, if intruders are not yet in the house you want to shoot out the window with a large bang, or if intruders already are inside, you’ll want to call 911 and hold a defensive position.
You want something that has low recoil and doesn’t require accuracy (especially with your heart beating out of your chest).
My recommendation is a semi-automatic shotgun in 20/76 fitted by a recoil pad.
If you prefer handguns, 22lr or .38sp.
