CEO: "I've got a choice between making an extra $1Mn, this year, or firing 10 people and degrading the product/service we offer our customers…"
CEO: "Layoffs it is!"
Now expand the scope of that "extra $1Mn" to each member of the C-suite, the board and the shareholders and suddenly you have the announcement of mass layoffs at a company that would still turn a profit without those layoffs and without degrading the product/service offered to their customers.
