I took the risk of leaving the pond pump running overnight.
This morning the pond was 80% empty and the pump had stopped, after losing the plot and squirting the water onto the garden. This is why we need a new pump and luckily it's just a wildlife pond so no hreal harm done. Anyhoo, since I'm restarting the project I've refilled the pond, shut off the pump (obviously) and haven't had to water that part of the garden this morning.
