Reading a new book, #Babel by #RFKuang. I was not expecting to be sobbing in the first chapter. Turns out, I *maybe* have a "thing" for when kids end up adrift in a world full of adults who only half-give a shit about them. I mean, it only appears in both my bigger works.
Also, that book does a stellar job of illustrating how a little boy from Canton who's adopted by a cold, distant English noble would have to learn to code-switch to literally keep himself alive.
