I have not had much feedback, but the more I think about it the more I think there is a real civil case to be made by buyers of Tesla cars against Tesla.
The gist of the claim is that Tesla, through its president, has acted in violation of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing. That violation would be the massive diminishment of resale prices due to the actions of Tesla's dominant owner and controlling executive, one E. Musk.
It's not the easiest case to make - there is a lot of evidence to be gathered and evaluated via discovery.
This would, however, make a fairly decently class action - the combined damages could easily range into the tens of $billions. So the potential rewards for law firms could attract some serious legal talent against Tesla.
