Ancient valley
Breathes,
Reflects the
Shadow back
From snow capped
Mountain,
Seethes under
Fog and smoke.
They say the earth
Will quake, the sea
Will take her back
And there will be
Leagues of water
Where I sleep.
I’ll be tied
Unafraid and
Broken against
A new rocky coast.
My heart spent
A lifetime
In my throat
And what has
It done except
Whether like a stone?
Oh, Sierra
Unencumber me
As California
Sinks.
