Back in the 1980s and ’90s—back when I listened to a lot of conservative talk radio—they had a 𝘭𝘰𝘵 of commercials for “Hooked on Phonics.” (Probably too many!) They were trying to reach homeschooling parents who were struggling with how to teach their children to sound out unfamiliar words like “Kamala.” Seems a bothersome number of conservatives 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 don’t know how phonics work.
