Props to the family at the next table - they let their kids order their own lunch and have taught them how to do it super politely. (With a wee bit of help - "don't forget the waiter said you can get the mayo on the side" - "Oh! Can I please have the mayo on the side?")
Nice little bit of autonomy for the kids, with support to make sure lunch isn't unexpectedly slathered in mayonnaise.
