Their superior capacity and usefulness didn't save the aqueducts and it's not enough to save ocean going cables in a less secure and less stable global environment.
Starlink doesn't have to be the best if it's the only global alternative, or the only link between different silos. We'll have to scale down and/or adjust.
I personally believe satellites will indeed fail too and that unless we make a huge civilizational leap the internet itself will become a lost technology.
But that's the next step, first go the cables.
And I believe the current civilization built on 500+ years of inflation enabled by centralization cannot survive the rise of a civilization built on deflation enabled by decentralizion, for all it's merits.
