Many Jews and Israelis (including my own relatives) defend Israeli actions no matter the evidence of massacres and horrendous violence. Why?
For one simple reason: ultra nationalism.
When I talk about ultra nationalism, I don't mean skinhead, hooligans, or violent mobs (though that does exist in Israel too). I mean that nationalism is so deeply embedded, it is so connected to every person's own identity, that they must defend Israel no matter what.
