I recently found that YouTube.com asks visitors to "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot", depending on your IP address. Apparently, they hate VPNs and Tor. No captcha request.
This is great, because it means I won't be as easily distracted from more important things. They also broke Invidious.
Fun fact, when you hand over a monopoly power for something as critical as online video sharing, they will eventually abuse their power.
PeerTube is a viable replacement that I wholeheartedly recommend.
