Apparently Intel Macs don't get the new appearance for the Chess app in Sequoia. The app is identical on Intel and ARM Macs (MD5 /System/Applications/Chess.app/Contents/MacOS/Chess = a9468fb2d8dd3a551c43d0f110861b85 which has both x86_6 and arm64e code segments) but it looks and behaves like the old version on Intel, including even having the old prefs dialog. Booo!
