the guy who made the plugin chose prosody as the xmpp chat server he wanted to use for it which is fine if you dont have 500 people watching a stream. if i do record stream or josh or anybody last year tryin to stream anything it locks up the entire page because it's trying to poll the chat plugin which makes the entirety of the site hang until it starts getting a response. prosody is a single threadded xmpp server but it's highly extensible and works literally out of the box with no config so i understand its use case.
i had a pretty active issue thread on his github and it seems they have chosen to offload chat to 'other servers' instead of just replacing the fucking server and exposing the config options for peertube admins. so we need irc and we need it yesterday
