Slavs perfected the distillation of Vodka (which comes from potatoes, as opposed to corn, barley, and other materials used for other liquors), but they deserve no credit for its creation.

The question "Where was Vodka first distilled?" is perhaps unknowable, however it was the Italians who brought the distillation process of liquor (that is shared among the production of many types of spirits) to the area.

So where was it first distilled? Nobody knows. But Italians get the credit in my mind.
