So I have over 70 hard drives (and ssds) running 24/7. I usually try to rotate in new ones preemptively every 3 years. Only the second drive failure YTD. I'll have to order some more to keep on the shelf.
https://unixsurplus.com is my go to for the past decade, usually as good or better than ebay and their staff has always been very helpful.
