Vets are a luxury few small-time farmers can afford.
As an aside, not that I watch it, but when one of those vet shows somehow end up on a tv I am struck by how gynocentric the whole thing is. Even when there's a male vet (he's really the only one who has a vaguely normal sense about what he's doing) there's a serious lack of professional distance when it comes to dealing with the animals and a big emotional attachment that the femoids have with them.
We have become soft and allowed things to fester.
