I'm going to be a contrarian here and say that I'm happy they're paranoid about squatting - it makes short-term rentals and residential landlording less appealing to big companies that will leave the places vacant. I hope real estate and STRs and property management become extremely undesirable investments and jobs.

Since squatting is quite rare, I don't think it puts meaningful numbers of people in danger to have the landlord class hate and fear them that much more.
