With the spotlight focused on Phoenix and the desert southwest with the current heatwave, I'm reminded of the year I spent living in the Valley of the Sun.

It isn't hard to see why people live there and 'tolerate' the extreme summer heat. The vibrant sunrises and sunsets are part of a daily cadence that showcases the remarkable landscapes that abut the city and cast an otherworldly glow on the architecture of an urban hub clinging to existence in a land of scarcity.
