John Brown Type Beats on Nostr: "You can't come in and tell people that we don't know anything, that Black people ...

"You can't come in and tell people that we don't know anything, that Black people don't know anything, that poor people don't know anything and gotta get it from some academic, you know what I'm saying. And the academics ain't never been in, you know, they haven't suffered what you suffered..

But I've had people come up to me and tell me: "You do know you're writing for the bourgeoisie, don't you? You're writing for the Black bourgeoisie." or: "You're writing to those elements of the Black bourgeoisie, the academic element." That they're the only ones that can understand what you're writing.

And I had to stop and think about that. I said "How do you feel like, how do you figure that?" I wrote Anarchism and the Black Revolution in the penitentiary, and I wrote it with prisoners giving me feedback. Telling me stuff, asking them stuff, and they seem to understand it. There's a high level of consciousness in the prisons, and it would have been a hell of a lot more books written in the prisons if it hadn't been for censorship.

So this idea that people can't understand, you know. I'm self-taught. Somebody was using the term, I hadn't heard it used in any other conference anywhere, auto-didactic, I think it is. A self-taught individual was some of the best organizers, and the theoretical organizers and activists have just been people who taught themselves.

They taught themselves complicated political theories, and so on and so on. And that was the real thing with the Black Panther Party and the Black Panther newspaper: it taught people complicated theories, and then they could turn around and understand it and teach it to someone else." - Lorenzo Kom'boa Ervin
