Anwar Ibrahim (Cairo) takes the dispute between French star Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid's striker, and his former club Paris Saint-Germain to a new turn on the European scene in the coming weeks. According to Lequipe newspaper, PSG is demanding that Mbappé submit a financial report related to his player accounts to UEFA, the European Football Union, by January 15th at the latest. This is because the UEFA regulations require clubs participating in their competitions to have no outstanding debts to their players, according to Article 82 of the union's regulations. Therefore, PSG must explain in the report that it has no outstanding debts to Mbappé. The newspaper pointed out that PSG must provide an explanation for the debts owed to Mbappé as soon as possible, after the player received two favorable verdicts from the French Football Federation's legal committees. This financial dispute between the two parties may affect PSG's performance in European competitions, and it is necessary for the club's officials to convince UEFA that their position is legitimate and that they have not committed any wrongdoing. The newspaper reported that PSG is calm and quiet about the matter, and will submit its report as usual every three months, providing the required information by January 15th, like all clubs. However, the newspaper noted that UEFA's regulations may punish PSG, as is often the case in cases of delayed payment of outstanding debts to players. All eyes are now on UEFA's committees, which are independent, but the newspaper hinted that Nasser Al-Khalefi, PSG's president, is a member of the executive committee and also the head of the European Clubs Association, without explaining what this means. Mbappé is demanding 55 million euros from his former club, including three months' salary arrears for April, May, and June 2024, a signing bonus, and other bonuses for the same period. The French Football Federation's judicial committees have ruled that PSG must pay Mbappé this amount, and the appeal committee has upheld the decision. However, PSG's management has refused to pay the amount, and has filed a lawsuit, arguing that the French League has no authority over any financial disputes between the management and players. Mbappé's representatives have not been idle, and have filed a lawsuit against PSG with the French Football Federation's highest appeal committee, which has supported the player's demands.
