There are only a handful of cases like that and for the vast majority of the accounts listed in the directory, the ‘Verify’ link indeed points to a tweet containing the person’s pubkey. In cases where no such tweet exists, I look for an alternative such as an identifier linked to a privately owned domain or one issued by an identifier provider that has a reliable verification process in place, as far as I can determine that. Preston Pysh’s NostrVerified.com is one of those providers. I agree that for these cases, the “proof” is not fully verifiable/reliable but the same can be said for most “verification” methods. In the end, it’s important to understand that virtually none of the accounts on Nostr are 100% reliably tied to anyone’s identity, which is great.
