I would understand if companies just ignored this stuff and never fixed it, but the current equilibrium is odd. I've seen this from the inside at multiple companies, e.g., when Twitter created an accessibility team after getting dunked on for poor accessibility, and it makes even less sense with inside info.
Of course the execs don't care about accessibility, bias, etc., but given how much they care about PR, why not spend any effort at all preventing bad PR instead of waiting until it happens?
