Why? I think optionally saving notes could provide a revenue stream for the relays. I have seen relays already close down due to rising expenses of serving and storing.

The idea is to have more relays to make the network more resilient, but operational costs are an issue.

Bitcoin has coin distributions to alleviate this. Nostr operators need something as well, and with zaps it's should be fairly easy to accomadate.
