In a throwback to the days of circuit judges travelling to remote parts to dispense the King's justice, the Provost of Inverness and I, in our robes, used to process to the Castle for the opening of sittings of the High Court. With us flanking the judge, I offered a prayer to start proceedings. You never know what you might be asked to do in my job!",
