Earlier this week we made an appointment at the vet. Papel currently weighed just around 2 kilos. At the vet, blood is taken to test for feline leukemia and FIV. FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that occurs in cats and attacks the body's immune cells. This reduces the cat's general defenses. The FIV virus is related to the HIV virus in humans that causes AIDS. That is why FIV is sometimes also called cat AIDS. FIV can only make cats sick and not humans. Unfortunately, Papel tested positive for FIV. His immune system is already severely affected and this has caused him to be underweight and have bad teeth, among other things. His teeth therefore also have to be removed during an operation. Before the operation, this does mean that his immune system has to become stronger and he has to gain weight. Otherwise he would not survive the operation. The positive thing is that Papel eats and drinks and is also reasonably active. He has been given an injection for his immune system and several medications. We hope this works well and he can handle the operation. Next week another check at the vet.
