in the second screenshot, I think I just learned from thuna that the first else refers to the second unless.
Resolution:
The second else refers to the second unless. That's just how it is. :else clauses refer to the earliest unclosed unless (when, if).
There isn't a different way to indent this meaning. Everyone who said the indentation was fine was right.
