I'd say after sixty years of dragging the overton window to the right without any serious challenges, they probably don't worry too much about what the world would look like with them in the minority. Now Putin's swept the rug out from under the old conservatives, it will be interesting to see how they adapt. It's a lot like when the Whigs went tits-up for good.
