I think there are lots of great ppl and projects in the landscape, and the idea is to just connect them horizontally, without the mediation of the hierarchy. and the self-learning aspect of things like Emacs and free software links up to that for me. people follow their nose, take the initiative, make stuff, share it, etc., and the cycle continues.
so, taking solace in his much happens independently of the institutions.
