That's crazy, but it makes sense, as an Xray tube is just another kind of vacuum tube.
I'm guessing they had it open to mess with the adjustment pots, but it still creeped me out.
IIRC, the guy said something like, "Well, all this stuff could kill you if you're not careful, but if you listen to instructions well, you'll be fine."

BTW, did you know that people made an x-ray machine by peeling scotch tape in a vacuum?
