My friendships in the past with local-ish people who live in the city (I live in the suburbs) have always fizzled out. They'd usually act as if where I lived may as well be the moon for how far away it was, and I'd be the one stuck taking what usually amounted to the 2+ hours public transit trip *each way* to meet up in town (I'm so grateful, many years later and no longer in touch, to the few people who bothered to come out near me to hang out a few times). And now as I'm continually saying to myself "you really fucking need to meet more people and make more friends Idzie", I'm also realizing a problem in those past friendships was a mismatch in what we liked to spend our time doing, and while there are certainly scenes (including queer and adjacent ones) that exist in far bigger ways in the city than outside of it and that's incredibly important, I'm starting to wonder if looking for people who want to spend most of their time in the woods (and lets face it, that's always been me) in the city is not actually the most productive. Like of course they exist there!! But maybe not in large numbers. And while I really like Montreal and like spending time there occasionally, I really don't enjoy being in town regularly (and I especially don't enjoy getting there and back).
I don't know, I've kind of given up on meeting people this past year and just met a bunch of birds and trees, but that's making me a little sad and I DO want to meet humans I get along with too (preferably who want to meet more trees and birds along with me). It's hard 😭
