The story behind the rise of frozen dinners is wild y'all.
In 1953, Swanson's had a problem: 260 tons (tons!) of leftover frozen turkey.
Frozen dinners existed, but were not popular. TVs, however, were enjoying a meteoric rise. In 1950, 9% of us homes had one. By 1953 it was 50%.
So...market a frozen "turkey dinner" to busy moms as an easy family dinner in front of that new TV set.
The TV dinner was born. Sold 10M units in the first full year of production.
