having the development history available in a static, easy to archive format[1] is a valid concern and not just toxicity (but yes, for some toxic people it might be a handy argument). That's an area where funding could be used to improve existing solutions (gitlab?) to match what the elders want.

[1] and not locked up in a proprietary service (e.g. github) or a open self-hosted service where the service provider or upstream sooner or later might suddenly stop caring
