The word aboriginal is out of favour in Canada. Use Indigenous instead.
Ok, fine.
Except I keep seeing these explanations that 'aboriginal' is Latin for "NOT ORIGINAL", and that's wrong. Ab means from. aboriginal = from the original.
The single letter 'a' means not, as in asexual.
It's easy to check this if you google 'etymology of aboriginal'.
Also, Europeans going to another land and calling the people there 'unoriginal' doesn't make any sense.
But, I think bringing this up in class would not go over well.
