I spent about a year and a half in therapy and I felt like it helped a lot, but I didn't have a history of mental problems before that I was just going through some things and wanted guidance in not wrecking my life while that was happening. It worked really well for me but I can also see how it's mostly a thing that assumes everyone is coming from a pretty resourceful background in the first place, and the people with the worst struggles mostly don't have any of that.
