The Khoisan are the bushmen (and the hottentots). It's not having it both ways to say multiple times that they were there before the West Africans, who, as they moved into Southern Africa, hunted, killed and displaced them.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that an African thinks hard work is a fate worse than death. In any case the central African pygmies have been "traditionally" enslaved so there's no reason to believe it wouldn't have happened to the Khoisan (if they weren't entirely genocided) anyway.
