Uganda Unmoved By Anti-LGBTQ Law Criticism
Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has defended the country’s new Anti-Homosexuality Act which imposes harsh penalties for citizens who “promote” gay lifestyles, as well as capital punishment for certain offenses.
“The signing is finished, nobody will move us,” Museveni said at his National Resistance Movement party gathering. “If you try to recruit people into a disorientation, then we go for you. We punish you.”
“But secondly, if you violently grab some children and you rape them and so on and so forth, we kill you. And that one I totally support, and I will support.”
Earlier this week, the United Nations urged Uganda to rethink the law, saying that it conflicts with key international treaties and violates the rights of local citizens.
