New here- thanks for checking out my page. I am a musician, songwriter, mandolin/multi instrumental player, and professional gun dog handler. J is a pseudonym- but it’s an honest one. I have worked as a firefighter, EMT and corrections officer. I have lived from Washington to Massachusetts to Texas and settled in my home state in the mountains of Idaho to ride out the storm that’s coming. I released music from 2008 -2012. I am re releasing my older material under my new project Mountain Mandolin Band. This album is not new but it’s still new to a lot of folks. things that came before. 35 songs I still stand by and sing. There is not a lot of mandolin on these older records. My life has changed and so has my music, I’m playing a lot of octave mandolins and mandocello and electric versions of the same on the new material. Still very country influenced. Still with some heavier and darker bits both sonically and lyrically.
Things that came before is a good representation of my songwriting- the first half of it was from a record titled As long as this thing’s flyin’ - I was 21 full of piss and vinegar singing about girls and drinking. With one protest song. Songs written while I was living in Seattle and Boston and or dropping out of every school I got into. The second half is from my album Poison in the Wires. That album is mostly about our broken political world and it has a love song for my wife. The world was already in shambles when I wrote that album in 2010. I think the songs are still appropriate today. So I’m gonna keep singing them. These records are broken up with raw acoustic performances recorded in Austin, TX at Sweatbox Studios with Mike Vasquez.
As I mentioned I have new material and will be sharing new songs etc as I record the new album. But for now check out things that came before. Cheers.
