The word "fascism" wasn't invented yet when Americans started committing slavery and genocide but these atrocities happened anyway. An American fascism is more likely to closely resemble the slave states, the segregation regimes or the Indian wars than the Nazis.
But because these things were part of our history, white Americans perhaps don't regard them with equal horror.
