All of the major social media platforms are going to tank -- the only questions are exactly the paths they'll take to that end and the precise time frames involved. But the regulatory and political forces in play mean that any platform large enough is going to -- what's the best term -- oh yes, "rot" rather quickly now, under the weight of these factors.

There will be ups and down and shifts and shakes, but the overall trend will be like a ball of Silly Putty used repeatedly to pick up images from comic strips. You can keep rolling it inward, but eventually the entire mass is a gooey sphere of ink.

In other words, ruminating over the future of major social media platforms is likely a waste of time and effort. Their era is rapidly passing. They are doomed.
