Owl dude is indeed a very good character and his final scene is definitely one of my favorite scenes in shounen anime in general. A character who lives with an unending conviction of his purpose in life and the drive to see it through at any cost to himself, with the moral foundation stemming not from any elaborate philosophy but from the desire to live up to the expectations of those he loves, is obviously inspiring. Continuing to uphold that conviction even at the face of death, showcasing that his desire is not for strength or martial perfection, and even despite constant temptation, what can be more virtuous and upright than this for someone with his lot in life? He sacrificed himself for those who are without doubt weaker than him to fulfill a single mission, and to uphold a obligation he held to a sickly mother who had long since passed. He died without thought to himself but instead to those important to him, going as far as to reassure someone of his faith in him and in a demon that he only trusts is an ally.
The scene where the MC fruitlessly throws his sword at an escaping demon out of spite of its cowardness and then yells out the condition in which humans fight evil, within the darkness that they're bound to, is what cements the entire scene as something worth watching again. I did. Probably dozens of times. Sure, he's strong, but he'll never taste the glory of fighting someone stronger than him with risk of injuries that will never heal and within a condition that's favorable to the opponent only. Natural disasters can't taste glory.
