Besides that, I don't consider it a problem with the Fediverse that not everyone understands it. Gatekeeping isn't bad in all cases. In the Fediverse specifically, I don't think it improves the Fediverse as a whole by trying to lure in swaths of people who don't care for privacy and autonomy. Once the majority of users here don't care for those things, nobody will try to stop bad actors from harming the network. We're already seeing signs of this with Facebook "joining" the Fediverse.
I don't think there's anything wrong with people who care for privacy, security, and digital autonomy to prefer the Fediverse, and people who don't care for those things to stay off of the Fediverse. I'd argue its actually a very good thing to keep these communities separate, it'll only lead to annoyance and frustration when you mix these.
