Happy to chat with you about this at nostrica! We built a working model at idvpn.ca back in 2018/19, building into a nostr type model now. (I'd like to be open source and decentralized within a year).
We do multiple layers of KYC (self, WoT, vendor, lawyer/notary public) depending on your needs, verifiable credentials (with proper anonymity), and we meet the user where they're at (web2/web5). We can also do on device alive checks (liveliness) with proper privacy as well.
Users and vendors no longer care about privacy breaches, as all they have is UUIDs, no personal information. Existing companies don't like it, as there's no personal information data to secretly sell or share.
