If you don’t believe that people are able to believe things that directly contradict their personal experience, ask people if the moon and sun can be in the sky at the same time. Anyone who lives in Earth will have seen this regularly throughout their life, yet a surprising number of people (including the writers of one Star Trek TNG episode) believe that the moon is visible only at night because that’s how it’s often shown in artwork.
