Using tiles from a tile server is just never gonna feel good when you're zoomed in to a small area. Like, just let me make the lines thicker and also remove the wierd yellow circle around everything and that would fix 80% of my issues with looking at the map in vespucci. Then i could just turn off the background tiles to get rid of every single pieve of text being doubled up, often overlapping, with one version blurry.
I only use it when i absolutely need to edit paths/polygons. Most of the time i use StreetComplete Expert Edition (it has quite a lot of nice features over the base StreetComplete like actually allowing you to manually edit tags) because it renders the map in a way which makes it actually possible to understand whats going on.
