My recommendations for low-effort starts: Increase mower height, make small piles with fallen branches (away from house), include rock piles if you have rocks.
For plants, cover a small grass patch and let the grass die. Once uncovered, let whatever grows in grow. Use plant ID apps to keep the good ones and pull the bad ones. (Will be a lot of bad ones.)
Intentionality goes a long way with neighbors. If there's a defined edge, it won't look like neglect. Good luck!
