Honestly the only Mac/iOS app I know of that works well with AUTH is Nostur.
https://github.com/nostur-com/nostur-ios-publicDamus works ok for most things but it does not handle AUTH race conditions or CLOSED messages correctly so it loses initial filters that it doesn’t retry making the notifications/DMs inconsistent.
I can’t stand any of the web clients tbh.
