Decentralization is key, the more decentralized options exist , the harder for the goverment to clamp down on personal freedom. It doesn't matter if there is a widespread adoption for them now, the fact that they exist is enough to prohibit the goverment to push to hard, so they to restrain themselves or risk losing control by people adopting faster to these indepent protocols which are not under their control.
