Since Fallen Aces takes inspiration from other immersive-sims, I decided to test and see whether it was possible to Ghost through the game. Unfortunately, the answer is no. Not too surprising, since it's billed as a crime noir brawler with imm-sim/stealth elements, but once you play the game a little differently the seams in the stealth system are readily apparent.
Line of sight is used for detection when enemies are unaware of the player, but once they detect the player they know your location even if you duck behind cover and move away from them. The only way to shake a tail is to break the walkmesh path between player and NPC... if they can't walk towards you anymore, and stop seeing you, they eventually drop out of alert status.
One other way to shake them off is to enter shadows to become totally "Hidden" (not "Partially Hidden", they ignore that when alerted). In this case, it's rather comical. They can have line of sight to you, but as soon as you vanish into dark shadows they just mill around confused.
Still a fun game, but the stealth system is very much a vestigial add-on to an otherwise combat centric experience.
