it may sound extreme but the solar flare and geomagnetic storm of May last year was really quite big - recent analysis has shown that its van allen belt compression pushed to 3.3, the numbers relate to ratios of the diameter of the earth and the magnetic field flux toruses
for comparison, the Carrington Event of 1859 pushed down to 2, and this basically destroyed half of the small global telegraph network, the wires were literally fused and caught fire from the amount of electrical induction the solar flare caused
the dramatic difference in the intensity of that flare event compared to the effect, and the one in may, suggests that we may see, in the next two years or so as we pass the solar max this cycle, one or maybe two more near-misses...
if the solar storm compresses the field down below 2 and close to one it can induce such a massive electric discharge that researchers have dubbed it the "Cosmic Thunderbolt" and this is essentially a lightning strike that releases more energy than multiple simultaneous large payload nuclear weapons over a wide area - several thousand kilometers long, that completely destroys and sets on fire everything along its path
several ancient cave paintings depict these lightning strikes, and it is almost certain that the cave dwellers of the Magura Cave in Bulgaria were depicting it with a repeated figure that sorta resembles a dancing woman
the only safe place to be if you are in the range of a cosmic thunderbolt is reasonably deep underground
you may have seen images of lightning strikes on trees, that caused the tree to explode... well, imagine that times 100,000 over vast areas of land
and that's not counting the problem of the UV and ionising radiation that you will get bathed in during such an event
it's not likely to happen this solar max, but maybe next one, and 100% certain several of them will have happened within the next two cycles, ie, to about 2050
what we could see this solar max though, is a really heavy power outage over continent-wide areas yet
we are currently still on the "dark side" of the sun relative to the main driver of this solar flaring activity, once we move around to the "light side" there is much greater chances of a galactic current sheet induction of a big solar storm, this is the period from about march to october
smart people who know about this are already thinking about how we get through this and how we can most quickly recover our technological capabilities afterwards, being that such an outage is also going to cause massive problems especially in large cities where a lot of production is centered
not to mention that this shit messes with our health, both cardiovascular and brain function, and there is a very strong correlation between solar peaks and increased crime and war
next two years it's going to be at its peak, and then it calms down for another 9 years
